Measures to Combat Climate Change and Desertification in Northwestern Nigeria: A Systematic Review

Abstract

Northwestern Nigeria, an area with dry and semi-arid ecosystems, is facing significant difficulties from climate change and desertification. Agricultural practices, afforestation, renewable energy projects, and governmental interventions are the main topics of this systematic review, which looks at the strategies used to counter these dual challenges. The review summarises the results of government reports, international agency publications, and peer-reviewed works. Important conclusions suggest that although afforestation initiatives and community-based strategies have potential, advancement is hampered by deficiencies in financing, public awareness, and policy enforcement. Strengthening cross-sectoral cooperation, improving climate-resilient agriculture, and expanding renewable energy projects are among the recommendations.
