Organizational Ethics and Productivity in Public Health Sector in Rivers State

Abstract

Ethical standards and its impact in public organizations have increasingly caught the attention of scholars of public administration. Particularly with regard to those public organizations that are charged with the provisions of vital social services to the citizens of a given political community. This paper examined organizational ethics and productivity in public health sector in Rivers State. The paper adopted the Ethical Theory as its analytical framework. The cross-sectional research design was employed as a guide to generating and analyzing data. The Cronbach formula was used as a statistical tool to derive a sample size of four hundred and eight (408) respondents from a population of eight hundred and thirty five thousand, two hundred and eighty three (835,283) persons representing the health workforce of Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) and University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH). Generated data gotten through the administration and retrieval of questionnaire was analyzed via the use of frequencies and percentages, while the Chi-Square was used to test the only hypothesis which guided the study. Also, the qualitative data gotten from textual materials to complement needed information for the study was analyzed via the use of qualitative content analysis. The study found out among others, that; the existing organizational ethics enhanced productivity in the Rivers State public health sector.
