This study aimed at finding out the effectiveness of emotional intelligence (EI) training on lecturers’ job performance in Shehu Shagari University of Education, Sokoto. The study adopted a quasi-experimental design with a total population of 246 lecturers below the rank of senior lecturers. However, a sample of 50 lecturers within the rank of assistant lecturer, L2 and L1 was deliberately used and received the training on EI. Pre-test and post test data was collected and analyzed using t-test to ascertain the effectiveness of the training. Result indicated that, there is significant difference between pre-test and post-test teaching performance of lecturers below the rank of senior lecturers who are exposed to EI training in SSUE Sokoto, Sokoto State. This means that, lecturers who are exposed to El training are more effective in their teaching performance. The study therefore recommended that, University managements should intensify efforts on in-house teacher professional development training for lecturers who are between the ranks of AL, L2 and L1 periodically especially on areas of EI.
