Abstract
The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a vital program in Nigeria that bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical industry experience. However, the traditional SIWES process suffers from inefficiencies, manual documentation, and limited accessibility. This project proposes the development of an electronic SIWES (e-SIWES) portal, a web-based platform designed to automate and streamline SIWES operations. The e-SIWES portal will centralize management of SIWES-related activities, including student placement, monitoring, and evaluation, for students, institutions, industries, and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF). Utilizing web development frameworks, databases, and security protocols, the portal will ensure scalability, reliability, and data integrity. Data analysis techniques will include both quantitative and qualitative methods, employing triangulation. The study will be guided by ten research questions and a hypothesis, utilizing a structured questionnaire titled "Students, Institutions, and Industries SIWES Portal Needs Assessment Survey (SIISPNAS)" to gather information from respondents. The target population includes primary stakeholders such as students, SIWES coordinators, and industry supervisors, as well as secondary stakeholders like school administrators and IT professionals involved in the e-SIWES portal development. A representative sample size of 300-500 participants will be considered, with a stratified random sampling method employed for selection."
