Polygamy, defined as the practice of having multiple spouses simultaneously, continues to pose significant theological, ethical, and sociocultural challenges within Christian communities, particularly in contexts where traditional customs remain influential. While the Old Testament contains instances of polygamous relationships, the New Testament affirms monogamy as the ideal for Christian marriage (Genesis 2:24; 1 Timothy 3:2). This paper critically examines the challenges and prospects of polygamy among Christian couples, especially in African societies where indigenous values intersect with Christian doctrines. It explores the implications of polygamous unions on marital stability, spiritual leadership, church policy, and family welfare. Furthermore, the paper assesses churches' responses to polygamy, focusing on efforts to uphold biblical standards while engaging with culturally entrenched practices. By analyzing theological viewpoints and pastoral strategies, this study offered a balanced and contextually relevant approach to addressing polygamy within Christian faith and community life.
