Remediation of Misconceptions in Geometry Among Senior Secondary School Students in Port Harcourt Metropolis

Obunge, J.I., Adolphus, T.& Nwaiche N. C. s:

Abstract

The study was conducted to remediate misconceptions in geometry that was identified in a previous study, among senior secondary school students in Port Harcourt Metropolis, using Physics Education Technology (PHET) simulation package. The study was guided by two objectives, two research questions and two hypotheses. The design of this study was a pre- experimental design. The target population of the study was all 28,204 senior secondary school students in Port-Harcourt metropolis.301 SSS II students obtained through purposive sampling technique participated in this study. The instrument used for data collection in the study was a Geometry Diagnostic Three-tier Test” (GDTT). The stability index and internal consistency of the instrument were found to be 0.81and 0.78 respectively. The research questions were answered using mean. While the hypotheses were tested using t-test at 0.05 significant level. The result of the study showed that, teaching geometry to students usingPHET simulation package, reduced the level of misconceptions in Geometry.
